Motorcycle Outreach WIMA’s official charity
Motorcycle Outreach (MoR) was voted the official charity of the Women’s International Motorcycle Association (WIMA) at its 2014 annual rally in Zakopane, Poland. Since then we have informed about MoR’s work and raised money at every international rally. After we reached our initial goal to fund a WIMA branded bike for their project in Sonega, South Tanzania, we continued to raise money towards a repair shop at the same location.
WIMA: Ride & RUN for charity
We are happy to announce that the fundraising, as well as completing the Leiden Marathon, has been successful. While we have reached our fundraising target of £840, symbolising £10 per kilometre run, the giving page is still open for late donations.
We want to extend our deepest appreciation to everyone who has supported this charity event and donated to Motorcycle Outreach! Together we make the world a better place!
WIMA: Ride & RUN for charity is a WIMA fundraising event created by Anneli from WIMA Estonia and Åsa from WIMA Sweden with the purpose to raise money for The Motorcycle Outreach (MoR).
What, when and where:
We are going to run the Leiden marathon in The Netherlands on the 22nd of May 2016. There are different options and we invite WIMA members and friends to join us, the choices are full- or half marathon, alternatively 10k. All expenses are paid by the individual runner, all money collected will go to MoR. Therefore, we invite all WIMA members and all our friends all over the world to contribute with money to our cause.
What’s in it for you as a runner:
A weekend with friends in a beautiful part of the world. We plan to eat and drink, see some tulips, do some running and have a jolly good time. And hopefully we have raised a whole lot of money by then!

About the region
About the marathon and how to enter
MoR was established 10 years ago as a result of the actions of Simon Millward, a motorcyclist who spent 5 years travelling around the world. Following his untimely death in 2005, Simon’s friends and family continued his work by formally establishing Motorcycle Outreach: Run by volunteers, MoR helps governmental and non-governmental organisations to provide health care in rural areas. They have a successful track record in Indonesia where they have been supporting a project for 10 years. People in rural areas struggle to access health care and motorbikes are the ideal way to get health care professionals to towns and villages, often over challenging terrain. As well as improving maternal and infant mortality rates, they can provide health care information and advice, provide vaccinations and detect other health issues early. As well as providing bikes, MoR establishes a ‘Zero Breakdown System’, ensuring that the projects are sustainable, the bikes are well cared for and regularly serviced.
Supporting the Tanzanian NGO, Orphan Relief Services, MoR has recently provided 3 motorbikes for midwives and other healthcare professionals. They will use these bikes to reach mothers and their children, providing them with essential healthcare and education they would otherwise be unable to access.
